Defective Imported Drywall RulingA federal judge recently awarded $2.6 million to seven Virginia homeowners whose homes were contaminated by defective imported drywall, also know as Chinese drywall. This trial is the front runner for the thousands of expected lawsuit settlements. Because of the shortage of U.S. made drywall during the 2004-2006 housing boom, many builders used imported drywall from China. The sulfur gases released by defective imported drywall are deteriorating pipes, electrical wiring, and causing malfunctions to home air conditioning systems. It is also causing respiratory problems, headaches, and eye irritation to the home's occupants. We have implemented a defective drywall disclosure form for all of our transferring employees who participate in the homesale program. Should the presence of defective drywall be identified, further testing may be required.
