Canada Opens Doors for Skilled Immigrant Workers

The department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) is focused on economic recovery and further reducing the backlog within the Federal Skilled Worker Program, resulting in the following changes:

  1. Revised Eligible Occupation List: Applicants must have a job offer or experience in one of 29 in-demand occupations; allowing expedited processing for workers with in demand skills.
  2. Language Test Requirements: All federal skilled worker and Canadian Experience Class applicants must submit results from an independent language test taken within the last 12 months. Applicants must be proficient in French (TEF) or English (IELTS).
  3. Cap of 20,000 Federal Skilled Worker Applications: To manage the supply of applicants with labor demands, the government will cap the number of applications considered at 1,000 applicants per occupation. The limit does not apply to applicants with a current job offer.
